Salmonella Fears Prompt Basil Recall

green paradise basil recall

December 20, 2007—Top Line Specialty Produce announced a recall of 5,500 pounds of basil over concerns it may be contaminated with salmonella.

The basil was sold to food distributors in Southern California, Texas and Illinois, including restaurants.

The threat was detected by inspectors with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration who conducted a random check of the basil as it crossed the border from Mexico to the United States.

The "Green Paradise" basil subject to recall was shipped in sets of 12 one-pound boxes, identified by lot number 1219.
